DIESEL FUEL SURCHARGE

JOTS refers to an index-based surcharge that is adjusted monthly. Changes to the surcharge will be effective the first day of each month. The surcharge will be based on the National US Average On Highway Diesel Fuel Prices reported by the US Department of Energy. The table below is used by major Ground Delivery Service Providers (UPS, DHL, Fed-X).  Johnny on the Spot refers to, but will not exceed the surcharges on this table.

The following table illustrates the surcharge:

 $2.06 $2.14 2.25%
$2.14 $2.22 2.50%

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. How did we come up with the surcharge amount?

JOTS refers to an index based fuel surcharge.  It is the same index currently used by UPS, Fed-Ex, and DHL.
We have committed to charging the same or less than major ground "delivery" services.
  2. Preferred customers should not be charged more.

This is not a rate increase; it is management of a fuel crisis.
Because we are using a percent of sales, customers with volume discounted rates are in turn assessed a smaller fuel surcharge.

  3. There are companies taking advantage of fuel cost increases.

Fuel has historically been 3% of JOTS sales.  The increased cost is easily tracked here.  We are very careful to keep surcharges as low as possible as we kept rental rates stable since 2005.

JOTS had absorbed the rising cost of diesel fuel without surcharges from June 2004 through August 2005.

  4. Did we really need to join the companies who surcharge?

We tried hard not to for over a year.

JOTS uses several thousand gallons of diesel fuel weekly to provide the state's finest portable sanitation services.

  5. Why not just raise the quoted rates for service?

Although it doesn't appear likely now, we're hoping the need is temporary. Our monthly adjustments are a very accurate method of managing this crisis fairly.

Once stable for an extended period of time, our goal is to intergrate the fuel surcharge into our regular pricing.
